چکیده

The detection of an optical signal using a photonic mixer device (PMD) as an alternative to the PIN photodiode for a high-speed infrared link is discussed. The PMD, at its linear range, is characterized as a correlator detector. The functionality of this PMD for a better Signal-to-Noise Ratio is described. With an improved mixing efficiency and photosensitive area, the PMD will replace the use of positive-intrinsicnegative (PIN) photodiode that needs a front-end wideband preamplifier (and hence, the different sources of preamplifier noise). Furthermore, the correlator nature of this detector presents a handsome opportunity in IR wireless link the possibility of Code-division-multiple-access (CDMA).

Fiber-Optic Links Supporting Baseband Data and Subcarrier-Multiplexed Control Channels and the Impact of MMIC Photonic/Microwave Interfaces

We report experimental and analytical results of a fiber-optic link that supports simultaneous transmission of baseband data and subcarrier multiplexed control-data channels. A novel transmitter design is used to optoelectronically combine baseband and subcarrier channels onto the optical carrier using a differential Mach–Zehnder (MZ) interferometer modulator. Microwave direct detection of the ...

A New Proposal for 4-to-2 Optical Encoder Using Nonlinear Photonic Crystal Ring Resonators

In this paper, we proposed an all optical 4-to-2 encoder that has 4 input and 3 output ports. This device generates a 2 bit binary code based on which input port is active. We used nonlinear photonic crystal ring resonators along with optical power splitter for realizing the proposed encoder. In this device the switching rate and area are obtained about 333 GHz and 612µm2 respectively.

Non-Blocking Routers Design Based on West First Routing Algorithm & MZI Switches for Photonic NoC

For the first time, the 4- and 5-port optical routers are designed by using the West First routing algorithm for use in optical network on chip. The use of the WF algorithm has made the designed routers to provide non-blocking routing in photonic network on chip. These routers not only are based on high speed Mach-Zehnder switches(Which have a higher bandwidth and more thermal tolerance than mi...

Analysis of compressive sensing with optical mixing using a spatial light modulator.

Compressive sensing (CS) in a photonic link has a high potential for acquisition of wideband sparse signals. In CS it is necessary to mix the input sparse signal with a pseudorandom sequence prior to subsampling. A pulse shaper with a spatial light modulator (SLM) can be used in photonic CS as an optical mixer to improve the speed of mixing. In this approach, the sparse signal is modulated on a...
